Hawaiian Core Values
Hawaiian Core Values
At the core of Kaunakakai Elementary School is our vision of OHANA. Where Our students Honor diversity, Achieve High Standards child by child, Navigate as productive members of our global and technological community with Aloha. We strongly promote our Hawaiian core values of KLH. Kuleana (Responsibility), Laulima (Cooperation), and Ho'ihi (Respect) and infused them into our General Learner Outcomes. We feel that supporting the whole child is very important for today's student. Thus, we take every opportunity to promote and celebrate positive behavior on campus. We strongly believe that our student's social emotional growth is just as important as their academic growth. We use a Multi-tiered System of approach to assist students and better meet their academic and social-emotional needs. We take every opportunity to engage our community and parents to be active partners in educating our keiki.
Student Learning and Voice
Students at Kaunakakai Elementary School have numerous opportunities to showcase their learning. For example, through Family Science Fair, Spelling Bee Contest, Robotics Family Night, and the HA Youth Summit. Students do public performances in music (Violin class) and dance (Hula/Tahitian class). We do school level student surveys and a student suggestion box to gather student voice. We are improving our efforts to include student feedback in order to create learning experiences that are relevant and engaging for our keiki.
